Midterm Madness
This is the project portion of the midterm. My topic was Surrealism and Neo-surrealism. I chose to do something like this because it incorporates my three artists with the pipe, the rose, and the water. I also wanted to incorporate the themes of surrealism and neo-surrealism, with the chessboard and water, as these two elements are found in a lot of surrealist works. Overall, I think this project went really well and I enjoyed it the whole time.
I've always found surrealist work to be interesting, so I really enjoyed looking at your piece! The distorted checkerboard going throughout the entire picture really ties together all the different elements nicely. The rose is really the focal point to me, and my eye just travels around from there. Great work!
ReplyDeleteYou hit surrealism on the head! However, I have to say it, but I see the Twilight series in this. Sorry! But you have a chess piece AND a flower.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you weren't going for that. And the way you did the water is amazing. Water is HArD to draw.
I agree with Kelly and Brooke in saying that you did a great job with the point of the assignment being to represent surrealism. While I do get the twilight reference with the chess piece and flower, it doesn't bother me personally or take away from the experience of the piece. While I love the way the colors pop and add interest to the piece, I just wish there was color at the bottom of the piece as well to provide more balance, or perhaps a transfer of color from top to bottom. Otherwise, greatwork!
ReplyDeletehahaha, twilight... I totally see it. But anyway, I agree, you did a really good job on creating a piece that captures surrealism. My only criticism of that.... I am NOT a fan of surrealism :). But, putting any bias aside, your piece is very interesting, though I wish the rose and chess piece looked a little more realistic - but again, maybe you didn't want them that way since it's surrealism. So good job.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I can totally see the twilight thing in there too. There IS a difference though- your piece is art. I think the topic for your midterm assignment was really cool and your attempt at surrealism was very successful. Hearing your explanation of it made the piece even better :)
