This was the first full-size drawing we did, I found it difficult to shade all the background without smudging, but I am very proud of the fact that I was able to. I really liked the preparing for this because I thought of composition.

  1. Well I think your composition turned out really well on this piece, so your planning paid off. I really like the way your chose to capture the spinach leaf that is on the edge of the box, though I think more shading on the side of the box could have made this more apparent. Still, as a first piece goes, I think you did an excellent job on this assignment, using a good range of values and paying attention to detail. Well done.

  2. The veins in the spinach leaf really stand out to me; they're so well defined, but blend right back into the body of the leaf. You were able to accomplish a variety of different values with your pencils. The top of the box is so smooth and light; I'm glad you didn't end up smudging it, because it turned out so well! The depth of value you made in the shadow of the blueberries is also amazing; so many great details to take in!

  3. I'd like to say that your shading on the spinach leaf and tomatoes are exquisite. (Fancy word...) Also, compositionally, this piece gives the eye some interest and allows it to travel through the piece and dance around the edges. My only wish would be to add more detail to the background as well, since the beauty of the shading makes me want it everywhere. Otherwise, it's amazing!
