This is the distorted self portrait in ink, and as some of you may remember I had a landscape picture that I turned to portrait to make really distorted. For this piece, I wanted to use many types of ink processes to achieve an overall piece, because I quite enjoy ink. I used stipling (hard to miss), hatching, and a little bit of crosshatching. I really enjoyed the process of this piece, and even though it is incredibly distorted I appreciate how you can tell it's still me. Kinda.
I think your distorted portrait turned out really well! It's humorous to look at, and I think you had the biggest challenge of the class by making a horizontally oriented photograph vertical. The detail in your shoe and the cuff of your jacket really stand out to me; they're so nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThis piece messes with my mind. You look like a monkey! Hahaha. But it's cute. The distortion is great with this picture. Also, your massive amounts of stippling are both visually appealing AND helpful in adding form/shading!
ReplyDeleteI still am unclear about what the stuff near your hand is. It's a little confusing.
This distortion composition wise and generally is great! I agree with Kelly in saying that making a horizontally oriented photograph vertical is extremely challenging, but you pulled it off very nicely! While it very difficult to draw the detail of ground and rocks, you did make it somewhat apparent in your piece as to what it is by your hand. However, the lack of detail can make it more confusing to some. The only criticism I could give is to have more detail, but really, it's superb, and the stippling adds so much depth!
ReplyDeleteSo the distortion on this piece... hilarious :). I think it's really interesting how you did it, as it really shortens your torso but elongates your limbs. You also did a really great job on the wall.... so much detail... although I have to admit I wish there was more variation to the wall. But still, good job on putting in all that effort to create texture in the wall. Overall, a good project. My only criticism of the project besides maybe a little more detail is that the sign in the top right corner bothers me. It seems a little out of place and I think would have served the composition better if it wasn't there.
